White Belly Bud Vase
White Belly Bud Vase
Share
This vase is strictly decorative, it cannot hold food or water, and isn't dishwasher safe. It was handmade on the wheel and then raku-fired, which gives it a unique glaze and crackle pattern.
I love the paintbrush stroke on the glazing of this shape. It's slightly non-symmetrical, but I love its elegance.
This piece has a crack at the bottom. It's not water-tight because of the raku firing however and the crack is hidden by the small neck of the vase.
This vase is about 4.25in (11cm) high, 3.5in (9cm) wide, and the opening at the top is about 0.75in (2cm) wide on the inside.

Caring for your Petite pot
Raku pots should never be put in the dishwasher. They are not food or water safe because of the distinctive firing technique.
Process
Raku firing
Raku means joy and pleasure in Japanese. I was lucky to experience American Raku in a workshop in the country. Raku is a process full of energy: the glowing red pieces from the kiln, then the flames when they hit the wood chips in the barrels, and all of us throwing more chips at the pieces while they're still hot, running around to create the best contrasts and cracks in all of our pieces.
It creates fully unreproduceable pieces with unique crack patterns.
